Image Notes
In the Straights of Mackinac and at the juncture of Lake Michigan and Lake Huron exists the Old Mackinac Point Light, a once proud sentinel warning passing ships of rocky danger as they steamed by the island on which it was constructed. Built in 1892 but still abiding on Mackinac Island as a tie to its historic past, the structure is beautiful and well worth my efforts to capture it in oil. I did not stop there, however. Its surroundings are so impressive that I decided to paint beyond the simple light and attempted to capture the island more in its entirety. The Mackinac Bridge, “Big Mac,” spans the straight connecting the once far-removed coastlines of Michigan’s upper and lower peninsulas. The beauty and size of this suspension is unrivaled. And should you desire to take it all in with afternoon tea, the is no grander place than on the porches of the hotels on Mackinac. I love to travel and share my experiences. I hope you enjoyed this one. Go to Mackinac Island and relax, eat fudge, and enjoy the romance. And, as always, thank you for sharing my adventures in art.
