TIMELESS HOME DECOR
This painting is all about composition. I had a great photo of a bighorn sheep, and I had some photos of landscape that I liked. The design of this piece has a vertical angle that runs from top left to bottom right dividing the canvas in two sections, one focusing on the landscape and one focusing on the animal. I was careful to put the sheep’s head in the landscape section to join the two scenes together. I also want the viewer to look up at the sheep while at the same time looking down into the valley. The foreground has all this sage bush and scrub that is important to anchor the sheep, but I did not want it to draw the viewers eye from the sheep, so I used a lot of pallet knife work.
