My small orchard suffers during these hot, dry summer weeks. As I walk through I catch this Eurasian blue tit picking a hole in a beautiful pear – what a vandal! But wait, the bird isn’t the only creature enjoying these pears. Flies and many wasps take advantage of the holes in the fruit, and make them bigger. Fine with me, a wasp on the fruit means one less wasp interested in what I have on my plate.
