Beanfield Buck - Whitetail Deer

Beanfield Buck - Whitetail Deer

About This Artwork

In the Glory Days series, I will attempt to recreate the last moments in the lives of four special deer, taken by four skillful, and possibly a bit lucky, hunters. These are, of course, the largest Boone & Crockett Typical and Non-Typical, and the largest Pope & Young Typical and Non-Typical whitetail deer ever harvested. In these paintings I will attempt to portray, not just the deer, but also the land that produced them. So come along as we travel to the Platte River bottoms of Nebraska where Old Mossy Horns met Del Austin. Then it's on to a hidden little field outside Peoria, Illinois where Mel Johnson took the Beanfield Buck. And finally we travel to Xenia, Ohio where Mike Beatty took the highest scoring non-typical ever taken by a hunter. But first, let's go to Biggar, Saskatchewan, where on November 23, 1993, Milo Hanson shot the highest scoring Typical whitetail deer ever, shattering the old record that has stood for over seventy nine years.
