“Under the Northern Lights' mysterious shapes, the wolves travel for miles, single file and often alternating leaders to go faster and farther in the powder snow. As they make their rounds, they methodically check the elk herds' best grazing grounds, the wind-blown slopes and the sheltered areas. Any prey they encounter is carfully checked for resistance and strength. If an animal can confidently and forcefully hold its ground, it will be left alone. If it is in a weakened condition, it will be tested. If it bolts, it will be pursued until it either out-distances the wolves or loses the race. A young animal, confused and separated from its herd, and the just plain unlucky are fair game also. Wolves are opporunists, and sooner or later an opportunity will arise.”

Limited edition of 1,880 signed and numbered prints made from the original oil painting. Image size 17"x 27-1/2". Framed size 27-3/4" x 38-1/4" with a 2-3/8" espresso walnut-finished moulding. Double matting with pumice outer mat and brass nameplate. Published exclusively by Wild Wings.
