Conservation and preservation have been concerns of Bob Hautman's since he was a young boy. He works diligently to evoke emotion for the environment in his works. "If someone comes away from viewing my work feeling a commitment to preserving and maintaining the delicate balance of our natural resources, then I feel successful." His knowledge and understanding of nature enables him to inspire such sentiments. In addition to studying his primary subjects, Hautman pays close attention to nature's theater of dramatic lighting. Whether in a competition piece or otherwise, Bob incorporates intriguing light and masterful brush work. Bob's parents raised each of their children to understand the power of determination, the strength of art and the beauty of the outdoors. In fact, Bob shares the honor of having won the prestigious Federal Duck Stamp Competition with his brothers Jim and Joe.
